They say that they found him alone and broken, nestled in a thorny rose bush. The sharp thorns have been merciless on the baby’s flesh as he mindlessly tossed and turned. When they’ve retrieved the baby covered in his own blood, it looked as if the rose bush have given birth to the boy itself. The child was taken to the Orphanage for Gifted Children where he was fed fresh milk in abundance, slept on downy feather beds, given the best education, and christened Luther. However Luther always felt like he didn’t belong in this orphanage, for he found himself not as smart or talented as all the other children. The only thing that made him stand out apart from everyone else was his delicate beauty, which blossomed more and more with the may roses each year. The other children believed his beauty to be his talent for all they were concerned.Although Luther’s beauty has won him many affection and admiration for the other children, his reserved nature kept him away from everyone. He preferred to be alone, wandering the gardens of the orphanage. He tried to picture how his mother might look like, where he came from, and what his real name might be.The only thing Luther owned was a small rose pendant the size of a dime, which hung around his neck on a delicate golden spider silk chain. The people of the orphanage had discovered him wearing it and he has never taken it off since keeping it hidden underneath his tidy shirt collar. On lonely nights as he lay in his bed and looked up at the stars from his bedroom window, he would run a fingertip over the inscription of his pendant, carefully tracing over and feeling each detailed line until he fell asleep. Emerald eyes, blue smoke, and a great, broken down palace overgrown with ivy and roses haunted his dreams. The palace held a dignified radiance as it held against it’s own ruin, standing alone amongst decay and destruction. Yet, the roses gleamed ruby red and glistening as if they were alive.
